Here are a few tips that I found to help drive down the insurance on my classic car. I own a beautiful old Ford mark one Mexico. I’ve owned her for nine years now, and she is my pride and joy. I take an immeasurable amount of pride in my car, and have spent a lot of money in maintaining her to a top condition. I’ve kept the car in mint, concourse condition, as I do not agree with changing the look of the motor. So, because my car is in such a good condition, and standard, it is worth a decent amount of money. Not that I would ever sell her, but it does mean that if she got damaged, or got stolen, that I would receive a fair pay out through the insurance company.
I wanted the insurance to reflect the true worth of the car, in value and in the many long hours I have spent working on her. So I was made aware by various friends and contacts that I may be able to get my insurance premium down by trying to get cheap classic car insurance quotes. Through my network of friends I was able to find some quite cheap classic car insurance. There were a few things I did to enable the price to come down. For example, I had two category 1 Thatchem immobilisers fitted, and also a category 1 Thatchem alarm fitted. I also had a tracker system added, as I would always want the car recovered if it was ever stolen, as this car is a part of me. The Mexico is kept in a locked garage with a drop down bollard in front of the garage door adjoining my property. I have an alarm installed in the garage too, with motion sensitive CCTV fitted inside and covering the front and rear also. I use a steering lock inside the car also. I don’t want my car stolen anyway, but all of these measures help to drive down your premium. As I love my car so much, I try not to drive it too often, mainly using it for travelling to Ford events that are held regularly, especially in the summer months. But due to this, I have a set annual mileage stated on my insurance premium, which I do not exceed. But this is also a good way of decreasing the potential cost of insuring your car.
I hope some of this comes in handy when any of you are looking to insure your classic cars.
